Shorts: Detox or not?

Detox has become a buzzword for many of us. However, those who are focused on weight loss may be unaware that the rapid breakdown of fat tissue can result in an increase of toxins into the circulation.

One of the teachings of naturopathy is : be gentle to your body. This is why I am not a fan of water fasting and extreme dieting. Lack of protein and healthy fats, for example, affect your ability to detoxify.

There is no doubt that we are living in a toxic world. Symptoms such as low blood sugar, fatigue, chronic aches, mood swings, polycystic ovary syndrome, learning disorders, chronic infections, chronic allergies and poor immunity are signs of toxicity.  We need to detoxify regularly, gently and safely. The healthy gut program which I prescribed addresses many other issues involved in detoxification – leaky gut, imbalance flora, poor liver function, psycho-spiritual imbalance, poor assimilation etc.  Fat or weight loss is often a ”side effect” of the program. It is very common to loss at least 5kg (some reported even 10kg) after two months of treatment without dieting.

    breakdown of muscle as well, as protein is stored as muscles/fat. So if body low on protein from diet, it will start ‘eating’ up the muscles as well…

    protein cannot be ‘stored’ strictly speaking, but muscle is made up of protein…
