Why your antibiotics don’t work anymore?

Whole plant offers protection against drug resistance

Scientists from the University of Massachusetts reported in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (see reference) that treatment based on a use of the whole plant Artemesia annua ( The current drug artemisinin (AN) is extracted from this plant) withstands the evolution of resistance and is 3 x more effective  than the pure drug against malaria’s drug resistance.

The authors pointed out that taking the whole plant may be more effective than the single purified drug because the whole plant “may constitute a naturally occurring combination therapy that augments artemisinin delivery and synergizes the drug’s activity.”

I had mentioned many times in the past and in detail in my book Leaf to Life how herbs or whole plant are more effective than isolated drugs in fighting diseases; either using it by itself or in combination with pharmaceutical drugs to fight viral, bacteria or fungal related diseases.

Please note: Drug resistance is one of the most problematic areas in health care. This applies to almost all the drugs – painkillers, antibiotics, chemotherapy, anti-depressant drugs etc. One single common virus or bacteria can kill us if our immunity is low. This condition is worsened by the fact that we are continually exposed to drugs in minute amount on a daily basis via our food – pesticides in vegetables, fruits, hormones and antibiotics in meat and fish and eggs etc.

From my clinical experiences, herbs or whole plant extracts delivered with pharmacological dose (as practiced in phytomedicine and not in traditional medicine) is more effective in treating infection and the above than using drugs alone.

Pharmaceutical drugs such as antibiotics seem to work better if prior use of herbs are used to enhance immunity and host resistance. Sometimes they can be used together without contraindicating each other.

By the way, the herb Pyrethrum root or Bertram is used by doctors and herbalist to treat malaria and HIV infection in African countries. You can protect yourself from malaria or dengue or any other parasites with this herb.
