”The foundation of modern medications, chemistry, perfumes, and botany lies in plant medicine. In fact, many synthetic drugs are derived from plants….
Similarly, the development of Metformin, the most widely prescribed drug for the treatment of diabetes, can be traced back to the use of the herb goat’s rue, which is used even today by herbalists for treating the same condition (Bailey and Day, 2004)….”
Excerpt from book Leaf to Life by Sebastian Liew 廖偉棠
Very interesting news how plants are the source of healing for psychiatric issues. I will be touching on how to use plants to treat/prevent children’s immunity, brain health, memory issues in the upcoming Leaf to Life day.

I was told by many that they are not ” open” to herbal medicine, because it is not scientific. Strange!! Most pharmaceutical drugs are actually derived from plants. Scientists are still looking for compounds in plants for AIDs, cancer etc.
From my observations, one of the reasons for the above statement is rather – I am not ready to change my diet, lifestyle… , which are necessary for herbal medicine to work well. I once had a patient who came to me for chronic genital herpes but she refused to avoid sex with multiple partners and the pill. How to cure her condition?
I am not saying all plants are safe. Some seemly traditional herbs used by our ancestors are found not to be safe for long term consumption. This is why I practiced Phytotherapy, rather than purely traditional herbal medicine.
