True spirituality

I burst into tears this morning as I was listening to this song to commemorate Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who will be canonized on September 4, 2016.
India and millions around the world will celebrate elevation of her sainthood in the Vatican city ( it will have a live telecast) This poor legendary nun had helped countless poorest of the poor in India and around the world including the destitute elderly in Singapore (Gift of Love home, Boon Lay avenue).
A Tibetan Buddhist friend once told me that nearly everyone in India loves Mother Teresa, regardless of their religious background. A group of Buddhist friends visited her home in Calcutta and were shocked to know that despite her fame, she lived in extreme poverty in a small run down room till her death. Her fellow nuns do not use email or internet and wash the clothes of the people they served by hand; yes no washing machines.
In my view, spirituality is about – Who or what is the center of your life? It defines our relationship with ourselves, others and creation.
For Teresa, it is God. She did a lot of good and loved much not because she needed merits to go to heaven but simply because she believed she was loved by God unconditionally and therefore she need to love. In the words of Teresa – We love because we were first loved.
True spirituality is manifested, in the words of Mother Teresa – fruits of love is service to mankind. She did not have to preach much but did much. In fact, I don’t need to hear another sermon or any other spiritual books. To me, her life is already a sermon.
I sincerely give thanks to providence the gift of Mother Teresa and the countless men and women of different faiths and no faiths who had given their lives to serve the oppressed, the poor and the unwanted.
