ADHD, an ‘invented’ disease?

According to the eminent psychologist Dr. Jerome Kagan, Psychologist, and Professor at Harvard University –
“…(ADHD) is an invention. Every child who’s not doing well in school is sent to see a pediatrician, and the pediatrician says: “It’s ADHD; here’s Ritalin.” In fact, 90 percent of these 5.4 million (ADHD-diagnosed) kids don’t have an abnormal dopamine metabolism. The problem is, if a drug is available to doctors, they’ll make the corresponding diagnosis.” – Jerome Kagan, Psychologist, and Professor at Harvard University
I long suspected ADHD is an over-diagnosed condition. Our societal and parental expectations got us to misdiagnose our children. Children are meant to play and have fun. Every child has different talents. Some are more academically inclined and some are good with their hands (chef, artist, musicians, carpenter…etc.).
Another area to look into is the parents’ inner anxiety and stress. Your panic behavior, wanting to be busy all the time, anxiety, kiasu syndrome, nervousness all can influence your child’ behavior. Your thoughts are energy and your environment is influenced by your thoughts. This is 2rd Letter of Wellness (Environment) in my book Leaf to Life.
I guess by modern standards, I would be classified as 20% ADHD, 20% autistic, 30% anti-social 10% addictive behavior, 5% bipolar and the rest unknown factors.
Yet, despite coming from a financially poor background, I had wonderful childhood memories.
