I placed a lot of importance in thyroid health, so much so that thyroid balancing herbs are in my healthy aging protocol ( to be launched in 2018). The thyroid manages your basal metabolic rate – the ability to clear toxins ( fats, cholesterol, harmful estrogens etc.) from the body, oxygen intake ( factor in cancer), the ability absorb nutrients, the immune system to fight cancer, your mood, your skin and hair health etc.
How often I see patients with symptoms of thyroid abnormalities such as unexplained fatigue and moodiness, high cholesterol despite a good diet, dry thinning hair, dry skin, muscle ache, irregular menses, weight gain, and osteoporosis, yet the normal thyroid readings of TSH, T3, and T4 all shows the normal reading.
Often these parameters are not tested – reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, yet they indicate many blind spots.
For example, if all readings are normal and you have high and positive antibodies, pre-thyroid cancer is possible. Or you if you have normal T3, T4, TSH and positive antibodies, your thyroid is still making enough hormones but is under attack – stage 2 Hashimoto’s disease.
I often confirm blood test readings with pulse and tongue diagnose, basal body temperature and blood pressure/pulse rate ratio and looking at your symptom pattern.
Our thyroid hormone test ( 24 hrs urine collection) will analyze and test for TSH, T3, T4, antibodies, reverse T3, iodine, selenium and tyrosine level.
Those with symptoms of thyroid disorder ( such as fatigue, muscle ache, headaches, irregular menses or scanty or heavy bleeding, moodiness, weight gain, infertility, psoriasis, allergic runny nose, poor mental concentration, constipation, low libido, nodules on neck, anxiety for no reason, shortness of breath etc.), family history of autoimmunity ( rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, colitis etc.), previous neck, throat or thyroid surgery, Down’s syndrome, postpartum women, aging, constant menses issue should get tested.
For healthy aging, continuous improvement in thyroid health is a must. This is why it is my standard protocol for healthy aging and optimal wellness.
